Description
Trainee solicitor, Isabel Jackson-Talbot manages to trace and contact her father whom she had been led to believe had died when she was a baby. Together, Izzy and her father discover a magical world in the depths of North Yorkshire which they must keep a closely-guarded secret.
At about the same time, Izzy becomes romantically involved with her supervisor/manager, James Brodie, twenty-four years her senior. Almost simultaneously, Izzy becomes intrigued and captivated by the writings of a nineteenth century, philanthropic woman, Gertrude Rivers, who was employed as a nurse in Leeds in the 1880’s and 1890’s.
As James and Isabel’s relationship begins to develop, it eventually comes to light that James hides a guilty secret, although this does not emerge until the end.
